The Story
Betty lives with us.
She's not my sister. She's not my mom.
She's just… Betty.
Betty has a wand.
She waves it and says "Wibbly Wobbly Woo!"
She can make sandwiches yummy
and the rain stop falling.
It always works.
Except when it doesn't.
Sometimes Betty puts her shoes in the refrigerator.
She draws flowers on the wall.
She calls me by the wrong name.
I don't mind.
"Wibbly Wobbly Woo!
Make this sandwich yummy!"
"Betty sings songs I've never heard.
Old songs."
"I think we laughed
more than ever."
"Like someone
had just been there."
"Every night,
I sing her song."
What Readers Are Saying
She puts shoes in the refrigerator. She draws on the wall. She calls you by someone else's name. If you know, you know. And this book will break you open.
I didn't expect a children's picture book to say everything I couldn't explain to my child. No scary words. No heavy lessons. Just a wand, a song, and a love that doesn't need to be remembered to be real.
Why This Book
Children will see a magical adventure with a wand and silly spells. You will see something else entirely.
If someone you love is becoming someone unfamiliar, and you don't know how to talk about it — this book does it for you, gently.
"It doesn't always work. But I try anyway." A story about the courage to keep loving, even when the magic fades.
100 magic wands. Once they're gone, they're gone.
